Seed Pods

Hooded Winged-0nes–

Seed Pods of desire,

Replete in breath and bone,

Return to Self. Remember.

How came you here?

What sinew opened wings

Then plummeted toward grime and ash?

Lift off, rise against

Weight, odds, parsimony.

Release old dreams

Barren landscapes, skewed passion.

Remember far away galaxies

Return and drink again

Of wine and water

Sip preciously

In these shifting sands

And lonely hours.

Asana: There are two very different poses calling to us in the poem, at this start up time of year: One is Child’s Pose, returning the body to being seed pods, listening to breath, and hoped for new birth. The other direction is a pose that offers flight, strengthens wings, and reminds you of your true Angelic nature. Revel in the simplicity of a powerful Vira I, or Vasistasana/One arm balancing Pose; Ardha Chandrasana/Half Moon Pose.

Move from Child’s Pose into a flight Pose, and back again, feeling one give to the other.

Health Notes: A Practice engaging our imagination as well as physical body is a Practice that grows faster, wider deeper. Like all else that offers us joy, it jolts the heart, fostering our health in ways we cannot comprehend.

Astrologic Notes: These are the winter days of Capricorn energy when the focus is to build strongly from bones outward. A good Capricorn rises from the ashes of mediocrity, steadfast, time and again to succeed against the odds.

Ayurvedic Notes: Like Capricorn energy, the Ayurvedic plan at this time of the year is to keep moving with an even tempo. Don’t be erratic, or over-exert, which makes the body more vulnerable to becoming sick. Steady as she goes, keeping heart rate, muscles, and especially bones jump to a disciplined rhythm.
