*Eat warm, cooked and heavier foods, such as stews, preferably with some sweet (squash), salty, and oily properties.
*Spice foods with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, black pepper, and cumin.
*Reduce dry, light, (popcorn & crackers) cold, bitter, and astringent flavors.
*Reduce or eliminate stimulants (coffee, coke, & nicotine). Find soothing teas instead
*Reduce intake of most beans, including soy products.
*Dairy pacifies Vata, but don’t drink milk with meals. Preferably drink it warm before an early bedtime.
*Reduce or eliminate fried foods (French fries,) and hard alcohol.
*Sweet tastes pacify Vata (fruits, such as oranges, avocados, bananas, grapes. Grains, wheat and rice are soothing).
*Avoid corn syrup and refined sugars. (Read your labels! Be aware of the enormous amount of corn syrup in processed products.)
*Eat meals at regular, well paced cycles. Choose foods to keep the intestines moving. With Vata’s variable metabolism, constipation is often an issue.
*Try not to eat raw foods, especially in the mornings.
