2019’s OPENING SALVO

THEMES

Self-care is the number one issue with the planetary forces throwing us forward into this New Year. Promise yourself more time and attention for Balm in Gilead.

  • 2019 is the Chinese year of the boar, or pig. In a year of major changes let us not be pig-headed, rather -boar-brave and resourceful. Like Capricorns, the pig is a yin sign, with earthy natures. They are practical and work hard, earning their wealth. Given opportunity, they are in positions of power and status.
  • We don’t waltz into this year, we leap! Mars moves into its potent, fiery home of Aires. It’s poetic justice 2018 ends in last degrees of Pisces, last sign of the zodiac, and 2019 begins at 0 Aires! The year is ‘front-loaded’ with change, and new demands requiring attention. No rest for the wicked!
  • Political and economic shifts rock our collective boat, as well as deep internal dialogue, with self, and others, require wisdom, empathy, and courage.
  • Curious about this year’s thematic dramas? On the first Eclipse, the year’s 2nd opening salvo of transformational change, attend my Astrological lecture; Saturday, Jan. 5, 2-3:30 pm, at Laughing Dog studio, Wellesley, MA. Sign up here: info@ldyoga.com

THE STORY

This month is a Martian story-board, having no less than ten major Astrological events! It’s a total Wow of Eeek! We need to not only book time for self-care, but practice balancing, breathing, and meditating to handle the constant change. Mars in Aires, until Valentine’s Day, is our guide, a job he’s good at. Be careful that you are not at the hot end of his spectrum where he ‘takes no prisoners,’ picks a fight for the joy of it, or heads into battle without back-up. Rather, be under his superb tutelage of leadership, courage, and commitment. Impulses and instincts are strong, making it a good time to attend to desires and passions. Ask what moves you. Are your New Year’s intentions aligned with heart?

The Solar Eclipse on the 5th is in Capricorn, at the midpoint of Saturn, its ruler, and Pluto. It’s a Capricorn fest as Mercury, along with Moon, Sun and Pluto reside here. The midpoint takes on great importance here, as the duel between Saturn and Pluto is the dance that twirls the world this coming year, into its 2020 climax. This is yet another ‘opening salvo,’ and is a big precursor of what is going to demand we dance differently through the next two years. You can feel the world in purge-mode. It is the dying of the good old boys, the West as leader, and the idea of endless resources. Pluto, as dark lord of the underworld, and Saturn, as lord of time, are lead characters in our new drama. Tibeten Bhuddists honor Eclipse times as sacred, as the effects of action are multiplied. What we do has a deeper imprint. Celebrate this week by finding time to purge-anything and everything: bad habits, a closet, your library, your computer, toxic acquaintances, sad regrets. The Eclipse will do if for us if we don’t. It’s always more fun when we choose, eh?

“More is more.” The day after the Eclipse, Uranus, god of change and chaos, changes direction to go direct in closing degrees of Aires; more flames under our feet. More on this at Saturday’s lecture, along with the nodal change into Cancer/Capricorn…which Uranus squares, bringing in changes-10X! The status quo will never be the same. Go take a nap today. Dream your dreams of a really new life, one that brings your unique gifts to the world, and one where the world turns to you for genius and comfort. New Year blessings to us all. With Grace, wisdom, and good will we will survive.

****

YOUR BIRTHDAY WEEK:  It’s good that as a Capricorn you enjoy hard work, being the CEO, and producing quality. This year you are particularly focused on having your endeavors pay off. There may be changes along the way, but patience works through glitches and stalls, to see success in late fall. You will feel an ability to make a new start with greater clarity then. Stay true to your heart-goals, don’t be beguiled by instant success. The Eclipse at 15 Capricorn lines up with the fixed star, Vega, which bestows balance and harmony with the divine. It’s dark side gives pretentiousness and changeability.

YOUR PRACTICE THIS WEEK: Get clear about what you want your Practice to offer you. Set up different kinds of practice to support you when needed. Don’t let it be a haphazard event this year, as we all need more support, care and structure to see us through the many changes. A Practice is one of the best care-tools I know to help us when we’re overwhelmed. It’s a Yin week, heading into the New Moon on the 5th. But the New Moon is an Eclipse, with a stationing Uranus in Aires, and Mars in Aires. We are on fire. As I wrote last week: breathe into your Third Eye and feel inner guidance. Your intuition can care for you better than anyone. Partner yourself with love, on the mat and off.
