Lean Back

les Coqlicots

Lean Back

Empty handed, palms open

Turning from the grasp of need

To Risk unknown happiness.

Abating effort

The driving force waivers~ stalls

Arcing backward into a shaft of morning sun.

Only once, in a field of poppies,

Wild blown and red by the road

Did I lean this far.

Then, and once upon another time,

A kiss splayed open the wrists

Revealing all had been surrendered.

Ah, sweet surrender, and you embody it so beautifully in this photograph. And your poem makes me want to give it all up and float away.

Judy, so pleased you enjoyed “Lean Back.” No I haven’t published my poetry, but that would be a dream realized. Thank you for the encouragement. Means a lot.
