The Misshapen Heart

There is an astrological signature for the place in each of us where we are most wounded, and where ultimately we do our greatest healing, and teaching. It is the placement o an Asteroid called ‘Chiron,’ named for the Greek God who was blacksmith, teacher, and healer to the Gods, and their offspring on Mt Olympus.

I am reminded of Chiron through my Yoga Practice, for it surfaces in poses that fmost rustrate me, and where my body feels inept/misshapen. Ultimately these are the Asanas offering the greatest knowledge, and profound understanding not only of my body but my attitude toward it. In my growing consciousness healing begins.

The ‘Chironic wound’ is a reminder not only of what we think we don’t do well, but where we hold back, where we allow fear to squelch effort, then disdain ourselves for taking the risk. Psychologically, it is the interior space where we cannot, or do not support ourselves, selling our talents short, diminishing our true gifts, or worse, not even recognizing them.

Just as our Practice over time opens consciousness, and elevates desire, Chiron’s healing comes through the same practice of awareness, loving kindness, forgiveness. In both, the deep bell tones of a well lived life emerge out of rock-hard struggles. The Chironic wound often appears as the ‘Zen-Master:’ The unfair boss who drives you crazy, the lover who abandons you, the child who flagrantly disobeys. Each of these demonic conflicts has something important to tell us/teach us, then heal us.

Are we listening? Are we willing to bring our ‘misshapen hearts’ into light?

Asanas: Natarajasana or Lord of the Dance. Begin in Tadasana, and move onto the R foot, (lift R knee cap, and draw thigh deep into hip joint.) bending L knee, raise the leg behind you. Rotate L arm out, bend at the elbow, reach back, and hold outside of foot. Press L hamstrings backward, drop pelvis down to lengthen lower back, lift belly. If you can, swing L elbow around and up to point toward ceiling, then reach the R arm back to hold L foot in same fashion. Keep drishti strong, do 5-12 breaths, repeat on other side.

Once mastered, this is a wonderful pose to dance within the’ inept and misshapen’ bringing them to healing and wholeness. It is difficult to stand majestically in ‘Dancer’ and not feel beautiful, and fulfilled….Opening the heart does that.

PUSH & SHOVE PRELUDE         Sept. 17-22

THEMES

  • We push and shove forward, released from summer’s pent up Retrogrades asking: will my plan work? Was my vision correct? Did I assess correctly? Is this an improvement? Can confidence overcome doubt?

Challenges from Mars/Uranus square on Tues.~ No running with scissors! Slow down! Prepare for ‘course direction.’ Take time-out to cool down.

This week’s final degrees of Virgo Sun, with ruler Mercury, we scrutinize, test, and refine ways to inhabit the real world. Leave room for other’s input. Be inspired, dream big!

Preparing the Equinox on 22nd, the moment the Sun moves into Libra, and day and night are in perfect harmony~ we declare ‘fall’ in the Northern Hemisphere. (Vernal Equinox in Southern Hemisphere.)

THE STORY

This week marks the midline, or First Quarter phase, between the New Moon in Virgo on the 9th, and the Full Moon in Aires on the 24. There’s a coherent sensibility between these two, for the New Moon asked we get our detailed ducks in order so that by the fruition of the Full Moon we would courageously zoom ahead as Aires’ warriors. The smart warrior is taking advice and listening to their gut before picking up the sword. If you have been tired, there is good reason, it goes far beyond that of the usual school start up syndrome. Remember that one of Virgo’s gifts is self-care through daily habit and diet. She is the healer of the zodiac, winnowing wheat from chaff in order to best digest life-bites.

With Mars as general of ‘commitment, energy force-field, and anger boxed into Uranus’ chaotic surprises, higher mind, and enlarged perception expect to be challenged. This is the third, and last square between these bad boys. The first was in May, announced by the Kilauea volcanic eruptions. This last hit unleashes typhoons and hurricanes. Together, they can create the ‘perfect storm’. They also open an enlightened perspective, and deeper perception, as well as irritation and over-strong reactions. These personal and non-personal lightening rods kick society onward. Dare I say upward?

As night and day come into perfect balance, take a quiet moment to you’re your own balance between big picture VS little picture; me VS other; inner life VS outer; experience VS hope; attachment VS non-attachment. The quarterly Equinox and Solstice charts reveal primary energies for upcoming three months.   (More on this next week, but here are themes to contemplate.)

*Be aware of old anger issues of how you’ve used aggression, either passive, or active. It’s time to see it, and heal it.

*When feeling afraid of the unknown, and the massive changes society faces, be-Virgoesque with daily habits of holding yourself, gathering angel wings about you to feel protected. Find a true friend who will hold your hand, then be that friend.

*Despite pervasive conservativism in the world, move beyond the old ideas, be bold and challenge where you, and others are stuck. Kill old, fixed mindsets with listening and love, and lead the way to greater harmony.

REMEMBER TO HOLD THOSE IN PERIL IN YOUR PRAYERS. FILL YOUR AROUND-THE-WORLD-VISION WITH HEALING LIGHT.

* * * *

ON THE MAT: Despite fatigue, stand your mat with the intention to conquer~ a new pose, an old fear, on-going frustrations. This is a great week to break down old barriers, step by small step. Prepare for Libra’s harmonizing balance by using Virgo’s powers of assessment. Don’t be in a rush. Don’t assume you should do a pose in the same old way. Don’t criticize anything you do on the mat! It is a sacred space, there for you to learn to love yourself more.

YOUR BIRTHDAY WEEK: Thanks to Mars squaring Uranus, your birthday year is sure to hold surprises! It also asks you to relinquish and cut away what no longer serves, especially fear! Take some meditation moments to observe your ‘shadow’ or disowned self, then asses how to heal what no longer serves. Do not judge or critique! There is opportunity for greater vision, and a more empowered sense of self! Have at it, save yourself/serve the world!
