Beltane’s spring birth is given a lovely shout out by the Scorpio Full Moon, revealing and asking for depth of passion, transformative intention, and desires to grow powerful. May 1 is also the ancient celebration of Beltane- a Celtic cross quarter day- and a sister to Samhain in the fall. As Moon and Sun face one another, Beltane celebrates spring’s potent new life in opposition to Samhain, celebrating the dead.  Both offer a time when the veil between worlds softens and reveals.   Beltane adds power to this Full Moon which is already emotionally charged. The Full Moon face-off between a Taurus Sun and deeply emotional Scorpio Moon illuminates an understanding of personal power and control, as well as its mismanagement -which we see in the world. 

“May the force be with you” as you step into the dark to moon-howl.  Honor the work you have done to unfetter fear and claim your ‘right use of will.’  It is a passionate, inward time of reveal, when it’s imperative to dive below the surface of what is – to see roots of what is growing. This energy is expanded, better yet- ‘imploded’ by the ruler of Scorpio, Pluto-God of re-birth and transformative life shifts, squaring the Full Moon, AND standing still to go retrograde on May 6.  You know that whenever any planet stops to move forward or back in its cycle around the earth, we are more influenced by its energies.  Because of Pluto’s potency we are already under that ‘stationary influence,’ and the Full Moon he rules. 

Pluto’s invitation is alchemical.  He takes us from life into death, and many kinds of death before we die. He offers a quiet, relentless determination to see through the collective noise and tap into our sovereignty.  He demands we clarify objectives before we muscle in to change.  If you have been feeling stuck, expect gears to move into motion.  Your job is to decide the speed of your shift and its direction.  Pluto often brings a ‘heaviness’ that feels underground and hidden which often slows us down.  This is so transformative work can occur.  After the fire and push during Feb. and March, it may be a nice balancing.

The first week of May, and onward into June is dominated by Pluto’s Station at 5 degrees Aquarius, which lies close to the South Node of America, expanding the Aquarian energies of ‘we the people’ as does Beltane’s connection to ‘the workers.’  Aquarius is also about revolution, seeking a better life for all.  What will affect personally is Mercury, the mind, squaring Pluto as he Stops and Stations.  With both planets in fixed signs, expect your thoughts, ideas and conversations to be deep, investigative, and ponderous. You may feel you are excavating something.  Or you may realize something is dying and fading away, offering space for the new and unknown to enter.  Be bold and clear-eyed, don’t let fear stop the process.

In my previous blog, The Hero’s Journey, I wrote~” The spring of ’26 builds internal tensions forcing external re-build.  We are being initiated into evolutionary transformation, and as uncomfortable as it feels, we need anger as well as courage for relentless determination to prevail. We lay new foundations by re-structuring the known to author the unknown.  With Pluto in Aquarius, the power of ‘we the people,’ joining the individual drive of four planets in the raw personal power of Aires says there is no hope in sitting out this fight!”    Under this Full Moon, look back at the demolition and changes you’ve experienced and ask, “What is my most important task now?  Where does my soul hope to take me?”

Your Venus-led savvy shall be salve for burnt skin, the pleasure of simple gifts, and the hope of beauty to root new life.  But like everyone else, you too shall be charging into unknown realms of opportunity.  Don’t gore the Matador on your way out of the ring!
