White birch lie boned-out
Bleak, naked against a fretful sky.
Or, is that my narrow eye
Not content or warm within
Believing them defenseless?
Limbs silhouette early twilight
As snow begins waltzing the air
Weighting skeletal branches.
Opening imagination to possibility
Unformed before. Eyes wider than before.
These debutantes begin their dance
Rising and falling in purpled shadow
Reaching out, calling one another
Weaving spells in tree-speak
Asking me to honor this sacred life.

In this new journey of the Chinese Fire Horse, in full gallop with an Aires warrior on its back, we are called to grow more magical, to see what lies below old belief. This year encodes fast, hard driving energies, with sudden big sudden shifts of energy. For those who attended my ‘Cosmic Overview,’ you are aware of the timing and essence of the sudden turns, leaps we head into. In this year of ‘wake up calls,’ we are packing heat; the fire of ideologies coming to blows as old world faces new world, as anger and aggression clash with peaceful resistance. The first big hit comes February 14, when Neptune and Saturn move arm in arm into the pivotal point of 0 Aires. Neptune, ruler of spirit, creativity, loss and confusion, after many years in Pisces is leaving his ‘at home-watery domain. He will be snuffed out and transformed with this move into fiery Aires. He has been dancing with Saturn, the old man of can do leadership, and perfection for some time now, but their dance has not brought them much joy. Hard to know whether to laugh or cry about this taking place on the day of the heart, as the heart wishes only to love, and Saturn asks if this is wise, or correct action. Neptune say’s I have a depth of lovely spirit, but in Aires I’m confused and upset, and often behave badly. It’s wise to begin integrating these powerful, and very oppositional energies NOW. This is a year to plan ahead because come spring, when the heat rises to carry us off, there won’t be time to prepare or plan.
Exploring the Saturn/Neptune hug can be highly creative, but it’s not simple or quick to fathom. It’s like exploring a museum with rooms of various artists of different vision and execution. This is a year when listening to your intuition, your dreams, and hopes, keeping the faith, while listening to your heart is a necessity. Declare yourself a visionary, holding hard to hope. This will be a big test as unfortunately; in looking at the past, war is a possible manifestation whenever Neptune moves into Aires. If we wish to stop history’s repetition, we need to grow awareness to raise our hands and stop it now. Take note how many countries have begun measures to strengthen their military, particularly and sadly our own in unforgivable ways. Old alliances are falling by waysides, with many rogue elements rising. Aires can be many kinds of warrior, but first he says, “You’re not the boss of me- I am!.”
In the US chart, the Saturn/Neptune conjunction takes place at the base of the chart, which is a strong statement of what shall be rooting the country in this coming time. It forms squares to Venus during the year, which is ‘astro-speak’ for problems with and for women, our partnerships and allies, finances, as well as dealing with a sense of our self-worth. As Saturn moves on it will square the nation’s Sun, it’s ego and ID, which is not only a difficult time for the country, but for the leader of the country. It is a time of testing, of trial and force, provoking revolution. Meanwhile, sweetly, quietly in the background, Neptune weeps for peace, for the world to embrace one another as equal spirits.
When the Sun enters Aires, at the Spring Equinox, March 20, let’s remember that the Sun is exalted here as it is the emblem of law and order that the king embodies. The king as hero is here to break old laws, running into conflict with those who wish to uphold the law. As the harbinger of ‘the new’ he/she must destroy the old. This is why Saturn does ‘not perform well in Aires.’ He/She is the keeper and manifestation of law and order. As Saturn is representative of establishment, boundaries and structures, Aires energy is far too pushy, explosive, and lawless for him. Part of our important work will be to re-weave old structures and boundaries into new possibilities, ones that move and morph with speed and exuberance. We experienced Saturn in Aires in the late 1960’s with the Vietnam War. No words needed for those of us who lived through that time.
It is not only the world moving into greater upheaval, it is each one of us having to re-invent ourselves in some form, needing greater purpose as well as perspective. How do you choose to inhabit a new persona? How do you wish to lead? What kind of warriorship calls you now? We are all having to grow, actually leap forward, and before we do, best to balance, stabilize, and honor self as is, before opening the big door to massive can-do expansion.
