Creating Magic

Come to the mirror of sacred imagination, Stand close to yourself, Palms open, listen, wait First notes reflect the spirit.  You brought your anger and sorrow Now, dance upon them Allow darkness to reveal the new dream Call this to spiral, rise, and twist within Descend and root in solace Emerge from grief. Blow last kisses to the magic.    For those who have danced Shakti’s “The Magic Moment,” you’ve experienced the layers in this moving mudra that twists in and opens out, revealing secrets of self to Self.  You have felt the beauty in the music of the Ahn Trio, and moved deeply into the simplicity of the dance that roots the body in a magical space, and calls our divine nature forward.  For those of you viewing the dance for the first time, I hope you become part of this magic. Connect to mysterious forces by sitting in jnana mudra. (Touch thumb to forefinger.) Mudras lock in secrets, and awaken the unconscious to heal, seal, and support mind/body connections.  This is are also the territory of Shakti Yoga Dances.  The Jnana connects human consciousness to cosmic consciousness.  The index finger is symbolic of humanity, the thumb symbolizes the divine.  When joined, they create a lock, a particular symbolic meeting of forces which is part of a mudra’s mysteries. The Sacred Now

Now is the time to know that all you do is sacred.  In late 1300, Hafiz wrote the poem, Now Is The Time.  His words remain resonant in 2015; an ancient call to arms reinstating what is always needed, and has always been true.  There is never a better now to expand consciousness and consecrate the body.  For the body, like the earth,  beings of the natural world, are being eclipsed by technology, intellect and speed.  Intuitive complexities are losing a battle to the ease and safety of straight lines, and analysis. … Now is the time to understand That all your ideas of right and wrong Were just a child’s training wheels To be laid aside When you can finally live With veracity~ And love  For the most part, we are secular beings. We set aside a few moments to ask God for help, or to rage at Her/His unfairness, rarely allowing veracity~ And love to settle in and soften life’s blows.  The body as sanctuary takes practice. It is a rehearsal hall full of mirrors in constant use, requiring intention, resilience, and Windex. … Now is the time for the world to know That every thought and action is sacred. This is the time For you to deeply compute the impossibility That there is anything But Grace. Now is the season to know That everything you do Is sacred. Cleaning the mirrors that reveal us to ourselves is the daily practice of ‘chop wood/carry water’ that grows our light.  In choosing the sacred now, we elect to integrate head and heart.  We expand old visions beyond original teachings.  We re-calibrate polarities of shadow and light, admiring both the convoluted and the narrow.  The profane and hallowed live side by side where we fear beckons courage to grow. Our… Read more »

Blood Moon

Blood Moon She rises in the spring sky A pendulous weight Growing gold through dark cloud Evoking Primitive memory. If she were not magic enough Shadow swells, scything the face  Until her wanton light occults Then Blood red blood she hangs Accepting the veil Mystery and mayhem replete.       Transformation of Astrology & Yoga I can’t put it any better so I’m offering you Rich Humbert’s fine insights at www.celestialweather.com He writes, “There’s a slight increase in the chance of a natural disaster, a fair chance that most of us will witness some extreme behavior, and a good chance that some of us will feel a shift in our life’s direction. There’s a 100% chance that we’re living through a cultural sea-change.  …. The world has changed; we’re now in the future.”  Thank you, Rich! Since the future relies on the past, looking back to previous ‘Blood Moons’ (162-163 C.E.  795-596, 842-843, 860-861, 1493-94, 1949-50, and 1967-68) the ones we know revealed huge events that shifted the world, namely China. The People’s Republic was created out of revolution and declared in ‘49, and again ‘67~ which may make this Blood Moon another Chinese turning point.  Israel, and the Middle East also have disruptive correlations with Blood Moons.  The Americas were opened up in 1493, and World War II ended in 1949.  This Blood Moon is likely to be a history marker for upcoming 12 months.  (historical dates from Christine Skinner) This April, the weeks between the two eclipses~ 15 and 28th are crackling with energy, due not only to the usual leaps of faith we make at yearly eclipse times, but the coming together of a planetary grand cross.  Visualize being in a boxing ring with three other opponents.  The Yoga injunction might be: Stay light on your… Read more »

March In New England

March In New England Winter’s dark wreckage Is coin of the realm. Its choppy sea of crusted snow Covers a heaving earth Trembling in wait Wild with green longing, Juicy and plump Despite desiccated cold. I need only remember~ Remaining as rich as my dreams.   Astrology & Yoga of Transformation  The sliding doors of March prevail~setting set us up for what’s ahead while we look back in re-consideration to realign.   We move between Pisces spirit of endings and Aires New Year salvo of mastery.  They may collide.  That’s when we head to the mat and allow the perfection of Samasthiti/Equal Standing to imbue the body: Be present, become a delicate balance of spirit and human. We need every tool available in our Yoga toolbox for the volatile spring combinations headed our way.  If ever there was a time to practice responding instead of reacting, it is now.  And like all else, it is a practice.  Another practice in good stead is to grow consciousness and ask ourselves the difficult questions.  It’s an important time to pay attention to synchronicities and their symbolic resonance for this will help us make the best of necessary changes. The cosmic event of the grand cross, peaking April 20, will move lives beyond their old trajectories…some more than others.  Be prepared to be confused, and audacious, to be optimistic, and fearful, to remain aligned with your numinous-self, and take out the trash, perhaps with a big knife in hand.  If your life is not transformed, then perhaps you can stand at the ready to protect another whose life is shaken to the core.  Samasthiti.

All Things Bright & Beautiful

Before word, was breath Before breath-light  Numinous sound clouds Carried spirit’s  delight.   As it was in heaven, Gathered hand to hand, Song and chant steadied soul’s Descent upon the land.   Sharing who we are We celebrate on earth First, light, next-breath Then word – gives us birth.   Astrology & Yoga of Transformation The old fashioned-rhymed poem reflects the energies of the New Moon we are moving into this week…..perfect for Thanksgiving and Hanukkah, (as well as Sunday’s Salon.)  The Sagittarius lunation of December 2nd, asks us to re-frame perception, to see –as well as sing- the invisible threads moving in us, and through, and to re-consider what parameters create our reality. Jupiter, ruling Sagittarius, is the planet of ‘more.’  Jupiter expands not only appetites, but understanding, awareness and vision, and where it makes planetary connection, we broaden into possibilities of shift.  Because Jupiter is moving retrograde through watery Cancer, we are more aware of emotional nurturing, what we need and what we offer.  Jupiter here may also make it easier to move from conditioned childhood reactions and the unconscious programming of family patterns, to a reality of our own making.  The old assumption of, “I’ll believe it when I see it,” becomes, “I’ll see it when I believe it.”   This could be a Sagittarian mantra, and with luck-this week it might become ours. Another underlay to this expanded vision is Chiron squaring the New Moon.  Chiron, an asteroid, represents our wounding, it also teaches us how we can heal.  Chiron in square to the New Moon asks,  “What is the reality that keeps me suffering?”  What ideas prevent me from wholeness? Chiron was a mythological centaur, half human, half beast, half matter, and half spirit . The Chironic journey links the sacred to the mundane to nurture… Read more »
